And we reveal our sponsors for A Night at the Races

Tom Jones spun the TOSers to a critical victory in ATCA A2 cricket on Saturday, defeating Reynella and pushing us into third position ahead of a strong chasing pack.

TJ has only just returned to the club and with Jarryd Furnell unavailable for the first week of this match certainly took his chance when he was promoted from the B grade.

With Reynella chasing our 233, TJ took the first four wickets as the home side crashed from 0/65 to 4/92.

This opened up the Reynella middle order and they were soon 9/135 with Austin Smith and Brad Matters each taking two scalps.

After a last-wicket revival, fittingly it was Jones who took the final, and his fifth wicket, to close the Reynella innings at 174.

We batted a second time and faced 10 overs to make 2/47, with Ali Forwood making an unbeaten 27.

Having Jones and Matters both push up into the senior side and take some wickets bodes well for our depth and our aims of pushing for back to back promotions.

What if?

Meanwhile, the news wasn’t so positive for our B grade, who will rue missed opportunities to put St Peters to the sword and force a reverse outright.

Resuming on 92 in pursuit of our 127, Saints passed the score five down and went on to make 184.

There was plenty of time left in the day and our batsmen made a slightly better fist of things and made 155, with Keegan French’s (65) innings a powerful contribution.

Despite the better effort, Saints still had 16 overs to chase 98 runs for victory.

It looked a reasonable prospect for the home side but they fell seven runs short of full points, finishing at 6/92.

However, a two early missed catches would leave the boys wondering ‘what if’…

Not the result we wanted

The C grade had an equally disappointing result after travelling to Pembroke and having them dismissed for 106.

The chase started well, with the score on 41 before we lost a wicket only to be dismissed for 51. Matt Knox made 35.
